I spent some time this evening poking around in Ancestry.com and Fold 3, which is a site with a lot of military records.
I followed the trail back on Ken's family and was reveling in the names of his great-grandfather's siblings. Paralee! Ferdillen! Tipton Cicero! Parisade!
Then I checked Fold 3 and realized that two of the eleven siblings in that family died in the Civil War. They were both Confederate soldiers in the Alabama 10th Infantry. Ferdillen Pritchett died of diarrhea in 1861. Davenport Pritchett was taken prisoner of war after Gettysburg, and died in captivity...also of diarrhea. What a horrific waste. I need to lie down with a rag on my head.
