As reported in this space recently, the building where my office has been located for the last 26 years (which was a dorm for at least 25 years before that) is to be torn down this spring. We are moving out over the holidays and will re-open in a new space when the university re-opens in January.
Upkeep maintenance has been non-existent for the last year or so.
And now I think the building is getting us back.
With two more days to be open, the boiler has been shut off. They say it may not go back on. This means no heat in the building. It's 24F outside...
My colleague used the handicap-accessible restroom across the hall from me at 8:30. When he flushed, it would not stop flushing, giving a sound of Niagara Falls that lasted for almost 2 hours...until the plumbers could come and shut it off. Such a waste of water, and an incredibly annoying noise.
Whole light panels have gone out without warning.
I am sorry to leave you, building! You have been my home away from home for the last 12 years and I am very fond of you.
But, please don't collapse before 5:00 tomorrow and trap us here forever...

Edited to Add: Okay, it's afternoon now. The boiler is back on so we are not wearing our mittens to type any more. The toilet stopped its torrent, with a little help from Facilities.
But when I went home at lunch, all jazzed up with the idea of preparing the way, I put in a load of clothes and a load of dishes. At the same time. And, yes, I do know better...but I forgot. So the bathroom vomicked all over the place. :( You don't want the details.
I'm sorry that my hubby is home sick, but really glad he can let the plumbers in...and really hoping it will all be solved and cleaned up before I get home...
