I think I mentioned that my church has recently formed a walking group to train for the Susan B. Komen race in Dallas in the fall.
Today we went to a Muscular Dystrophy fund-raising walk inside a huge local mall. We were walking in honor of Gloria, a lovely lady in our church who has ALS. She was there in her motorized chair and she was so excited that we came. There were about 13 of us in the group. We walked around the mall twice (though the race course was just once) and it was 1 mile each time.
I think I mentioned in a previous post my wonderful friend J, who has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. In addition to having a terrible time with that (as you'd expect), it turned out that her insurance (provided by AARP) would not cover the cancer treatment! so she is doing a different protocol than was originally planned with a lot of pro bono help from doctors, etc. Beyond all that, her husband is spending 6 months in New Orleans working on disaster recovery.
Even though this was a chemo week, she was doing very well, and she came to the walk and went the whole way with us! She is such a delight and I have really missed her. We made a little of choir rehearsal and that was great, too. We are working on some movements from the Rutter Requiem for Holy Week.
Parish Meeting tomorrow!
