Ken is in the hospital with a terrible case of food poisoning. We have been here since Saturday afternoon, and we just got the diagnosis yesterday: Campylobacter jejuni
You would feel bad, too, if you had that stuff in your gut!
It is generally acquired via undercooked poultry or unpasturized milk. We haven't had any of the latter, and I haven't cooked any chicken in months: Ken can't eat it, and I have been mostly eating vegetarian. We suspect some turkey lunchmeat, which he HAS been eating a lot of. Turkey sandwiches are a main stay of his diet.
I went to the cafeteria this noon for lunch and most of their entrees had chicken in them, and guess what: I did not even feel like going there. I don't believe I've ever had food poisoning and I certainly don't plan to start.
It was scary, waiting for the culture to identify the bacteria. It's still not pleasant, as the antibiotics do their work...but at least we know what we are looking at, and the doctor said, "this IS what it is, and you WILL get well." The days while we were waiting, we were imagining ... everything.
