Fall Equinox Friday Five

Songbird says:  It's that time of year, at least north of the equator. The windows are still open, but the darned furnace comes on early in the morning. My husband went out for a walk after an early supper and came home in full darkness.

And yes, where we live, leaves are beginning to turn.

As this vivid season begins, tell us five favorite things about fall:

1) A fragrance -
Just the way the outside smells when it is chilly.  The earth smells different, and the trees.

2) A color -
we do have a few trees that turn bright colors (Bradford Pears) if the Spring has been sufficiently wet.  But the brown color of oak leaves falling...and being raked (or blown) into piles for the dogs to play in...is a great color.

3) An item of clothing -
a jacket that I wear to Jazzercise in the early mornings.  It's nice not to start out hot and get hotter - but to start out chilly and warm up.

4) An activity -
being able to sit outside without being 1) devoured by mosquites or 2) drenched in mosquito spray!  Hooray!

5) A special day - Nov. 2, All Souls Day, which commemorates "all the faithful departed."  And I don't pay too much attention to that "faithful" part.  It's a day of remembrance.

Great play, I'm glad you get some kind of fall-iness down there in Texas!

I always try to wrap that feeling into our All Saints Sunday observance; I do know what you mean.

Our relatively wet summer here made for more mosquitoes than we've seen in a long time...and they sabotaged many a pleasant evening on the front porch. FT is allergic to 'skeeter bites -- she actually gets blisters that will bleed at the slightest provocation -- so we are very glad for cooler weather, so we can finally enjoy outdoor living!

Hadn't thought about All Souls Day or All Saints Day as I've heard it. That is indeed a special part of fall.

I'm really sorry you have this flu thing. We will really miss you this weekend. Shall I come up and hold your head and make you chicken broth? Let me know. m

ooohhh - we're doing an all hallow's eve service at the new church!! i can't wait - i've never seen one done - the lff readings are very cool & we'll have lots of candles in the space.
