Good shirt! I have a book bag that has something that Thomas Jefferson wrote to John Adams in 1815: "I cannot live without books." That's how I feel, too.

I went to our county library system's annual book sale yesterday-- 6 books (good ones!) for $8. Neibuhr and Tillich. Irving's A Prayer for Owen Meany(my zillionth copy, since I keep lending it out), Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (far more thought-provoking than scary, and Mr. M is going to love it), a little Garrison Keilor, and a great old copy of Donne's complete poems.
I have to ask, while I'm wallowing in bibliophilia... have you read 84, Charing Cross Road? It's a perfect, perfect charming exchange of letters about books. (If you want to borrow mine, I'll happily send it to you.)

want to know where to get the short, AND Mrs. M's list of books!

Mrs. M, great list, great shopping! I have NOT read the book you mention, but my library has a copy and I have requested it online(love it, don't have to go to other branches, they bring it to mine!) Thank you in advance. It sounds so familiar...but I don't think I've read it...? I love books of letters. My master's thesis was on the epistolary novel in the 18th century.
And have you read "Chin Up, Girls! A Book of Women's Obituaries from the Daily Telegraph"? I'll be glad to send mine to YOU...
a splendid friend supplied it to me after I admitted how madly fond I am of reading good obituaries. These are some of the best ever!
Diane, the shirt is at www.unshelved.com (librarian stuff!)
